New Lowrance fish finder question

I just got a new Lowrance Mark 5X Sonar unit. I wired it into my my deep cycle marine battery and it turned on briefly and then shut off. This happened 3x and then the unit would not turn on. Seems like the battery is too low right?

Well the battery has enough juice to crank my outboard motor but not run a small sonar unit. I'm baffled, how can this be?? I charged up the battery and it now runs the sonar unit but I still don't understand why the battery couldn't run this little LCD screen but had enough amps to turn my motor. Maybe i just don't understand how a deep cycle battery works, I use it for my trolling motor, lights and sonar. How can I tell when my battery is too low and how often can i charge it using my trickle charger?

Re: New Lowrance fish finder question

Welcome to iboats!

It's the voltage that's the problem, not the amperage. The motor is less sensitive to this than the Lowrance. You also want to make sue the electrical connections to the Lowrance are clean and tight. Poor connection=resistance=voltage drop.
