Bought a 1987 Four Winns Liberator 211, it has a 1997 350 with an alpha drive. Obviously the boat was re-powered. I am trying to figure out what parts might have been kept from the 87 motor, and what is from a 97.

Also, I have never owned a inboard, I am looking for information about this motor from the pictures, any observations anyone has, does anything look strange, any non-marine parts, etc.

Here are the pictures.

First, your pictures are to big, you need to resize them to 640 pix max width to post on the forum.

On to your engine. It looks like they installed what is called a bobtail engine. That is a complete ready to run engine with everything on it. It all looks OEM from your pictures ................ well, other than the rust and the missing belt ;)

Actualy, the grey carpet is not factory. Four Winns carpet from the factory extended all the way up the sides and was one peice. The glassesd wood that the carpet and panel attaches to has been cut. From the factory it extended all the way to the transom. This makes me think the transom was replaced. Your transom has some big bnlack spots in the same pic. This may be rot. I had the same look and it was. Four Winns are built very good but the glass work was factor and not great. If these items have not been replaced then thety most likely have rot in them. The backs on the motor stringers did not even have glass on them. The drain hole are way to high. See if the sound changes when you tap the transom in the black spotsas opposed to the tannish red spots.

ALso your exhaust was not turned down from the factor. But I like it. I may do this to mine. I am scared at idle it will still be very noisy.

These are my pics before destruction. My boat has had nothing done other than a different motor. The black parts on my transom were all rot.
