Re: nema 2000 compatibility

Is there a way to convert NEMA 0183 to NMEA 2000?
It's not a matter of converting. It's about the contents in the message packets. You can't convert information that isn't there.

I think you are confused about NMEA, the National Marine Electronic Association, and NEMA, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association.

NEMA --> http://www.nema.org/

NMEA --> http://www.nmea.org/

The NMEA has two standards for data communication, NMEA-0183 and NMEA-2000. You can purchase a gateway device which will transport data between these two standards, but such a gateway is not particularly cheap. Compare at

Re: nema 2000 compatibility

thanks...
What I have is an older Garmin chartplotter that puts out 0183 data. What I need is 2000 data for input into my Flowmeter. The above devices will work with the use of a laptop, but I just want to get the GPS data, speed over water mostly, so I can input it into the flowmeter to get the approx range based on fuel consumption...etc. I may end up buying a new chartplotter...

What fuel monitor are you using?
