Needle replacement in situ

I have a new set of needles arriving on Monday - the top one leaks when the primer bulb is pressed so I'll do both at the same time.

Should I replace the needle and the seat as a unit?

Can I drop the bowl, pull the float pin and replace the needle/seat or should I dismount the carbs and do it?

I don't want to mess with the carbs too much - they seem to be fine except for the needle valve leak.

Well, Steve: Depending upon which carbs you have the answer is maybe.

Yes, always replace the needle and seat as a set.

No, You probably will not be able to do it without dismounting the carbs. TC carbs have a pressed in seat and you must thread in a screw and pull them out--much easier to do with the carb off the engine and in front of you. WB carbs have a threaded in seat and you would be able to replace them on the engine but again, why make your life difficult?

Re: Needle replacement in situ

Thanks

The obvious question is how do I tell the two types apart?

Although I guess a dismantle or at least a dismount is going to happen anyway - I'll post pictures of the procedure unless any already exist.

Thanks Frank!
