Need to find Serial # Year of Motor 40Hp Mercury outboard

Can you please help me ? The serial # label is missing on my motor I can find the following series of number stamped on the engine :

1} 3416-822862-0
2} A950 JL
3} 76540 C

Does anyone know the interpretation of the above numbers ?

You're looking for a nine digit number. Depending on the year it could start with a letter. Look on the mounting yoke that bolts to the transom for a plate or sticker. Also look on the side of the motor (inside) for a disc about the size of a dime.
