Hello everyone I got a 1974 25HP Johnson and when I got it I thought it was a long shaft but it is a short shaft. I have a 20" transom. Do they make an extention kit for these or would I be better off selling it and buy a long shaft?
When it sits in the water the fin just above the prop is only in the water about 2"

On that flat-bottom you need to get the cavitation plate about 1" below bottom of boat.
Two options:
1: get an extension kit 5"
2: Cut down the transom.

I'd look for an extension kit before I'd cut the transom. If you start messing with transoms you could have boat probs and it devalues the boat. Most boats today have 20" transoms.

I may agree in principle, but looking at that transom I guess it neither will 'devalue' the boat or have any negative impact on stability.
It might in some cases be an advantage to 'adjust' the transom to a proper height to fit. To me extending 5" on that transom seems a bit too much, but need better pics.
