mystery motor?

hello i have a mystery motor i am hoping that you guys can help me solve so first here the story behind it. so 10 years ago my dad bought this this motor at a yard sale for $50 the guy said it ran great so my dad gave it to my grandpa had they found out it didnt have any spark so my grandpa gave ti back to my dad to fix it and he just put it in the shed where it sat for the past ten years. but now we got it back out to put it on our boat as a kicker motor. and to no suprise still no spark. but on the enginee there is no markings of any kind except for the model plate. the hood is bare with no label foot everything is bare i cant find a plate on the foot. but just by looking at the style of hte engine i think it could be and johnson/evinrude but am not sure.
here is the labels on the plate on engine in this order left to right top to bottom.

Those were made by Eska for sears by the way.

It's either a 9.9 or a 15 hp eska that was sold under a number of different brands. I have one exactly like it that I am working on getting it running correctly. Mine dies under power apparently due to an issue with the electrical system that I hope to get resolved.

flip the engine up and look under the pan in the rear for the model number, should be 217-xxxx

the youtube is of tylers 15hp and he used the basic princaple of this design

you cut the trigger coils lose from all of the rest of the traces in the module then attach the new CDI

Yeah I would do that if my second module wasn't missing. It's possible Ed may be able to build me a replacemt

I would expect the big issue with building a complete replacement would be getting the triggers in the right place. At some point, I'll get a chance to finish de-potting my dead module, and we'll see what blinding flashes of inspiration hit me.

did you guys see the pics our newest yahoo group member Brian posted? he just dug out the C! from the back side of the module and plug in a new one...he said the C1 is coated in a RTV sealant from the factory before potting.

I did see that. I sent him a message with some questions about building a new module. It seemed to me like he probably would know how. That seems to be the better long term solution to me

k sorry for the long wait went out of town for weekend. but thanks to mrcrabs i foud the number under the belly ban and it is 3C-290596 does anyone know be able to tell me what year and horsepower it is. and how do i know that it is the modules that are bad is there anyway to tell? and if it is the modules how do i fix them or replace them.

My 9.9 has the sticker with the model number in the lower cowl. As you stand in front of the motor with the upper shroud off, it's in the front left corner.

they put them between the transom clamps on some and where I told you on others, it will be a black tag with model and serial number

the only number i can find is the one i mentioned earlier on the back of the lower cowl underneath it on a black plate.

Where can i get a new cdi and how do replace it?butt first is there anyway that i can test them first to make sure it wasnt somethin else that has failed.
