Re: My 1981 Starcraft 160ss restoration

Thanks dont get to much time to work on it usually Saturdays & few hours before work. Only problem is it's out at my uncles farm in his shop and sometimes we end up bs and not much gets accomplished. But thats ok lakes are still frozen and it will be done for opening fishing. Going to install home rod locker setup in ski locker area if I like the way it turns out rivet in place and can always drill out rivets with my kids want to try skiing.

Looking real good Randy, looks like you had lots of cutting to get all that foam in there.

Re: My 1981 Starcraft 160ss restoration

The foam was real fun to cut. Luckly an old co-worker stopped by to look at painting the boat for me and helped cut. He cut foam strips for bottom in betweem ribs and I did rest only took about 1-2hrs. The bow was a little tricky but it has 2-3 times more foam in it than when floor was removed. I can not wait for spring to finally splash it and enjoy all my hard work. Need to save a few more dollars for some other accessories like stero and front bow seat cushions.

Well cut up some cedar for dash panels and ran them through the sander yesterday to get them down to the correct thickness. Installed my home made rod locker in the ski locker area, not the biggest but should work for my/our needs. Using the old cover just going to sand and coat with different color and installed stainless steel locking flush latch assembly. Here are a few pictures will take some of the dash panels when cut out picture of cedar junk before cutting up its old telephone pole. Used the same thing for my deck I built last year. My uncle has band sawmill.

Re: My 1981 Starcraft 160ss restoration

Thanks GA, not bad for a green horn. Done lots of work on old muscle cars and classic cars but never boat. Just nuts and bolts comes apart and goes back together 1 way I am taking my time. The rod locker is small but did not want to reinvent the wheel to put one pn the side. It will be fun this summer with my wife and kids. My wife just enjoys sitting in sun, my boy like catching fish if they are not biting it time to race around the lakes & my daughter likes fishing and soaking up the sun also. Thats what makes it all worth it might be amoney pit in some peoples eyes but to me priceless family memories. Thank you to everyone for the great comments.

Old telephone/highline pole, my uncle had gotten a bunch old poles from the linemen by his farm they were replacing. Him & I cut a whole bunch of them up for my deck 2 years ago on his sawmill and he still has a pile of left over peices.

Got a few things done Friday through the weekend. Got the cedar peice cut down and made dash panels, bow step treads and gunwake step treads. Also had a 4x4 cedar I had left over from my deck that we cut on my uncle's sawmill. I rippedit down to put on splashwale like Dozerll did and install some cup holders. Thank you Glen for the idea. Here are a few pictures.

Not much accomplished, fit the dash pieces and rewired & wired up some new features. Installing horn, radio & some intieor lights for night fishing. Plan was to have all wiring done yesterday and bow seats & platform for pedestal seat when fishing. But my dad wanted me to go look at 1964 Ford Galaxie with him instead. So buttoned up most of wiring today & start bow seat platform tomorrow. Here are a few pictures.

Here are a few more pictures. I counter sunk the machine bolts for dash panels. Nothing to fancy but works for me. The hourmeter is the orignal from when boat was new. Since it was the only gauge that worked all the time and did not fall apart when removed I kept for now will replace at later date.

It's been awhile, been busy with other things but got a few days to work on it. Started painting interior and top, not original colors but its what my wife & I agreed on. Here are a few pictures.
