J40VLSIB -

J = JOHNSON
40 = HORSE POWER
V = ????????????
L = 20" Shaft
SI = 01 (Year - 2001)
B = Model run

What is the 'V'? According to the repair manual this should be a "P" for power tilt/trim, but mine is a "V" and I can't find what that is.

Thanks

Jim

Wasn't the v for three cylinder as opposed to two? I probably wrong though

The V is sometimes used for motors that went to the boat manufacturer for installation as a package.-----Perhaps different paint colour / decals such as a " TRACKER " model.----V may also be used to designate a " special gearcase " what ever that means.

Ah, there it is. Except I have always seen that "v" in front of the brand and horse power. Such as vj40.....I learn something from racer every day.

OK makes sense. I'm third owner. I know the second owner, who in turn knows the first owner. Second owner says he was with first owner when he bought the boat and it came from manufacturer with that motor. Seen special gear case too but no idea either.
