99 Mercury optimax! Took to the lane yesterday. Turned the key on, no beep / tone . The motor cranked right up. Got it off the trailer and the crank light came on. Ran the boat just a little, ran like it should. Turned the boat off and on, never got a tone and each time the crank light came on. Any suggestions for me ti check before taking it to a mechanic ?

Could be a bad horn or loose wire on the alarm horn.I am assuming that when you first turned the key and didn't get the horn, the gauges powered up (motor had power)
