Re: Mercury gasket

The Carb float bowl gaskets will probably be OK. The Reed block will not. I have had to replace the little reed block gaskets on virtually every change. The carb baseplate/case cover will probably come off block clean. Anyway...... reedblock gaskets and your favorite sealant, along with some threadlock, and you should be OK....

Re: Mercury gasket

While I'm sure you could in some cases get by without using new gaskets, I wouldn't. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing in a boat away from shore. If you read enough of the posts on this forum, I bet 3/4 of them deal with a "problem" that somebody has already fixed,... just not correctly, and it takes days of investigation to figure out that the carb cleaning that was already done was inadequate or that the gasket on an otherwise proper carb rebuild is now leaking and the engine won't start or idles funny, or the piston went away for some strange reason. People will have differing opinions on this but gaskets are relatively cheap and I vote for all new ones.

Before you buy the reeds, I would check on the jets may require a jet change.
