That can be an issue if it wasn't. What you may have to do is pull the LU again, and get a cloth and pair of pliers and turn the shift knob on the LU until you get it into neutral. It has 3 positions, so you just grip it tight and use the cloth to protect the splines and turn it until the prop spins freely both ways. Then you can put your shift lever on your control box in neutral, and reattach the LU. That should get you in neutral and when you start it, it should be in neutral.
