Just purchased a used 15 Mercury 1993 2 stroke (with 12 volt charging feature) and had a chance to put in the water but only on shore (the lake is still frozen over!). I noticed at slower speeds, especially idle, it sounds like it skips a bit and then dies. At higher speeds the skip is barely noticeable and will not die.
I brought it home and checked the spark plug wires. One of them had a cut in it but not down to the core. I changed the wires and hope this was the problem.
I really need a manual to do some troouble shooting, but in the meantime what else can I check? This motor has been run extensively. What are the common electrical wear areas?
