My 2003 Mercruiser 3.0 I/O 135 hp is stalling right after it starts up. I can keep it running if I crank it up to 5,000 RPM but it dies as soon as I let up.

Boat is a 17' 1985 four winns. Had it professionally winterized at the end of last year. Hasn't run well yet this season. Thought it was the fuel pump so had that taken apart and cleaned up but still no luck. Carburator has been rebuilt too. Any help is greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Three things

If your actually going to 5000 rpm's your going to damage your motor.
If your going that high and your on a hose and not in the water your frying your impeller
Sounds like you need to rebuild the carb again

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I only brought it up to 5000 rpms to see if I could keep it alive then brought it down after a few seconds. Good to know the damage that can be done though. I'll have another look at the carburetor as you suggested.
