Please help me figure out the gear ratio.
1996 MerCruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 (4.3L) from a V6
serial barely visible. Looks like OF86 OF88 or OF68. or OF66

Ayuh,.... What's the rest of the number,..??

There's an outside chance it could be a 1.65:1, though normally it'll be a 1.84:1,....

Dear Bondo, My next thread question is going to be "How to Isolate if your Alpha 1 Gen 2 is a 1.65.1 or a 1.81. lol

I just sold this on ebay, & its so heavy I can't get it off the dolly onto the bathroom weight scale without squashing it to pieces. I weigh like 110 lbs myself. Is there any way to find out what the Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 2 WEIGHS? with the bell housing? i've never done freight shipping before. I've been searching through the mercrusier alpha one shop manuals for the weight but it seems only outboard manuals provide the unit weight for their units. maybe I can start another thread......."How much did your Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 2 weigh when you had to freight ship it?"

btw the serial numbers on these Gen 2's are Not legible. i was lucky to glare sideways at the metal decal for an hour with my nose an inch away from it just to get the first three letters. and the rest is invisible.

when in gear, turn the input shaft, count both the input shaft and prop revolutions. if the input shaft rotates 16.5 times for 10 prop revolutions, its a 1.65:1 ratio. if it turns 18.1 times, its a 1.81

your drive, rams, transom shield, and stainless prop weigh in the 115-125 range total
