Could I swap a 1983 mercruiser 305/5L serial#6275628 with a mercruiser 898 serial number 5403332?

Re: Mercruiser 898 compatibility with a 305

There must be some differences since on my 305 I have something called a thunderbolt ignition attached to the riser and a 4 barrel carb. On the 898 it is a 2 barrel and no thunderbolt ignition. I'm not too concerned about these though I'm primarily interested in the 898 motor attaching to the rear flywheel housing the same way the 305 does.

Thanks for the quick reply. The truth is i just bought the 898 (good price) to replace my 305 cracked block assuming they were compatible. Then I remembered I never asked anyone on the iboat forum if they really were. Thanks to the quick response I will sleep a little easier tonight.
