I have a 1998 mercruiser 5.0 ser # L619326 that is running a little hot....(indicated) This is the same boat that I have changed the block, due to a crack, and it seems to creep up to a hot indication. It runs fine, so I took the thermostat completely out and tested it with no help. By the way the drive is still removed. I am connected directly to water inlet.
Hopefully there is enough water flow available. Appreciate any help. (runs good, oil is good)

How are you connected to water inlet?

Thanks Don S for looking. Good news. This boat has a plastic piece in the hose just prior to t-stat housing. This piece has the blue drain ****, but it is also a check. I had no idea and I reinstalled it in the wrong direction. I guess I am the only one on here to do a dumb-*** thing. To answer your question, I have a barb connection going from garden hose to water inlet where it connects just inside the stern.
Now I have water flow and t-stat back in and all appears to be well. thanks again
