Here's a simple diagram for console control, maybe it will help. Could just go 12v to coil with a kill switch, and a push button start. Is the 470 efi or carb?

Are you saying you have a separate gauge panel ? the color code dosent match anything. Just take a jumper from the battery to the coil, a remote start button or just jump the solenoid.
No such thing as ign warning lamp. In your diagram its "in series" , this would drop the voltage. Why would you need to know the ign is on? If its on the engines running.

A - start button or just touch together for starter, jumper to coil direct(for short runs only) or to wire at electric choke. This uses the resistor wire for extended running.

I'm seeing now that my primary task should be to start studying the electrical diagrams...it looks like the electrical side could be a bugger. Those 2 black wires in the back near the coupling are free floating and actually have a ring terminal.

might just be trim/tilt wiring

Could be for the shift interruptor.
