mercruiser 120 '84 i/o value ?

im looking at a project boat, has a 1984 mercruiser 120 i/o motor needs overhauled. the guy wants 750 for the boat. if i tear into the boat and find the hull is junk, im wondering if i can recover my investment with the motor and outdrive. how much is the outdrive alone worth ? the motor in running condidtion ?

If it doesn't run or you can't sea trial it then the cost should be 0. Boats are negative equity. If this guy tried to take it to a junkyard they would charge him to drop it.

I agree with JustJason. I bought my boat with 120 merc for 2300 but that was a great running, perfect drive and great shape boat. If something is wrong then it is not an investment.

Understood, and i agree with your point, however, lets say i had the engine in clean, good running condition, and the outdrive in good condition, ready to drop in, how much would they be worth ?

Also, i should clarify that im a mechanic, just dont know much about boats. Overhauling a little inline 4 cyl doesnt worry me, im just curiouse of the value of these parts in working order.
