Merc Drive identification 1991 Alpha 1

I have a 1991 Glastron with a 5.0 Merc Alpha 1. The water pump is bad in the lower unit and I want to make sure I get the right one. I noticed when looking for pump kits that I might be right at a year/model change.

I am also thinking about going ahead and changing out the gimbal bearing and bellows since I think they are original.

all merc ident's are done by serial number. it's on the valve cover, flame arrestor, the left rear of the block (when facing it) or in all 3 locations...

Do you have a serial number off the drive?
Being a 91, it could be a 90 Alpha I or a 91 Alpha I Gen II.
You need an outdrive SN, not and engine SN.

I briefly looked for the serial number last night but didn't know where to look. Now I know where it is.

Like Bondo states, the Mercruiser manual is the only way to go. I will give you a link to the online version, once we find out what you have.

1st number on the drive
165R, then 0C818130.

Looking at the pumps on this site, I do not see anything comes close to these. Maybe I need the # off the motor?

I am thinking this is the right pump. It looks the same.

That is a 1989 Alpha I drive, 1.65:1 gear ratio.

Yes, the pump kit you linked is the proper one.
