Merc 350 Mag K&N

I have a Merc 350 mag and was considering putting a K&N velocity stack flame arrestor on it. The throttle body on the 350 mag is only 3 7/8 and I cannot find a K&N filter with a flange that small.

Has anyone else made this conversion and if so -
How did you adapt the flange size and was there any benefit to using the K&N?
