Merc 225 lost power & noisy

I have a 2001 Mercury 225hp optimax. I took it out today and ran it on plane for about 30 sec. and lost some power. The motor also started making a metal to metal noise. Any ideas what this could be ? <br />Thanks

trouble, give history on motor. is this the first trip after setting up? did it quit or keep running? did you put oil in the fuel? was the fuel old?

check # 6 cyl for metal on spark plug and check compression. also put air in cylinders and see if air goes through to exhaust if so a air injector has blown out if so pull head and don't run or you will destroy the cyl involved. These models have problems with # 6 cylinder going bad. mercury replaced some powerheads on 2000 2001 lost law suit.

I have had it out several times with no probplems in the past. Gas was only a week old. I use it all year about twice a week. The oil container was 1/2 full in the gas compartment. The oil container in the engine was full to the cap.<br />Thanks
