Well I finely found my problem on my 82 merc IL6 90 hp. The megaphone gasket is missing. Causing a exhaust leak near the water tube and the top of the drive shaft. Problem is it is no longer available from merc. Guess I have to make one out of gasket paper and high temp silicone. Has anyone got a pic of one ? The pic from parts man. merc dealer sent me is not very good. It looks like it covers half of each port and seals tight to the exhaust tube. Is this correct? Can anyone help?

Thanks for your help. but the pic I've got looks like there is 2 more bolt holes on the other end. the edges are wider, and the end where the other 2 bolt holes are, follows the shape of the exhaust tube where the drive shaft passes the tube. It maybe fits tight inside the exhaust tube. The pic you show would not be a problem. The part # for the gasket is 27-62362 . It looks like it kind os doubles as a sort of restricter plate.

Thank you. I did that and got the same pic as you. Problem is, The hole in the middle on the back side should be in the middle ahead of the two on the side. That is where the megaphone's third bolt is. There are two ports where the meg bolts on . It bolts on one port so on the gasket there should be a piece of material across where the third centre bolt is.
