Mechanical fuel pump is making ticking noise

I have a 1987 OMC 350 with a mechanical fuel pump. It is making a fairly loud ticking noise. Is this a sign that it is ready to fail? It's the original fuel pump.

Does anyone know if this is the correct part number for a mechanical fuel pump on a 1987 OMC 350... Part #OMC OEM 509404? It's known as a Carter Style pump per Sierra/Wholesale Marine.

I think I am going to replace the old pump for piece of mind.
