Lowrance Elite 5 Gold ?'sss

I have a Lowrance Elite 5 Gold combo fish finder/GPS and have a question about it that I have not been able to find out as of yet. I was wondering if it can be hooked to one of the new VHF radio's with DSC? The unit says it has NMEA 0183 but that is what I am not sure of what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks a bunch.

NMEA 0183 is the communication protocol used between compatible devices, like GPS units and marine VHF radios. The protocol is limited, but it gets the job done. There are just a few wires to connect. Follow the directions carefully. The communications parameters (baud rate, etc.) must be set the same on both units.
