Merc 35 HP, 1987, SN 177575
I know for a fact that the lower end gear ratio for this motor is 2:1 by turning the flywheel clockwise and observing the prop rotation. It is dead on at 2:1.
I am considering a replacement lower unit form a 1989 or 1990 60 HP Merc and the gear ratio for this seems to be slightly different, like 2:1.1, making the same observations as above.
Can anyone confirm this?
It seems to me that this replacement would work considering maybe a prop pitch change to keep the recommemded max RPM in the proper range.
Thanks,
John
