Good luck to you and welcome aboard, you have been given some great info to get you started. I look forward to the results. I think the lazy comment was probably a little tongue in cheek. I always say sometimes when I say something stupid I am trying to be funny or saying something stupid.

Are you going to replace the aluminum while you have it out or go with the original?

The original looks pretty solid so I'm thinking I'll go with it. Would it be best to just screw it in with stainless hardware and 3M 4200 or bolt it in place through and through?

Take a look at the holes on the transom cap. Most of them are probably aluminum nail holes. You simply nail the transom cap in place. As for the transom itself, you bolt that in place with stainless steel hardware.
