Re: Looking at buying a 1998 115 johnson is it better than my 96 75hp force
To answer your first question, he** yes!
What should you pay for the Johnson? No more then you gotta.
Seriously, I have no idea what it's worth. Too mant variables.

c/6
Hooty
Re: Looking at buying a 1998 115 johnson is it better than my 96 75hp force
Just to give you a little help. Go to this website at WWW.NADA.COM. They have the blue book prices on a lot of engines. I used this as a comparison, to purchase my used 1988. It worked quite nice. Let me know if this helps.
Re: Looking at buying a 1998 115 johnson is it better than my 96 75hp force
Im no expert but I think you will find your
Force is a Force Distributed under the Mercury
corporate umbrella.
Without question the Johnson is the better motor
even allowing for the recent OMC problems
they are not even in the same galaxy.
Just be sure the Johnson is a good sound motor.
A motor is no better than its use and care has
been.
Re: Looking at buying a 1998 115 johnson is it better than my 96 75hp force
Have a 96 90hp force. I would say go for the Johnson. Plus it's more power and a piece of mind knowing you have a good motor on the back instead of a piece of crap that could go anytime.

I think you will see a big improvement with the additional hp - however you are going to take a big hit on the Force motor when you try to get rid of it. Whenever I consider upgrading my 90 hp the price shock brings me back to reality.
