I have a 71 9.5 hp johnson motor that starts great. The problem is getting it started again after I get to a fishing spot and ready to move on. I have to pull the crank until my sides hurt before it starts. I've checked for air leaks in the fuel line which are OK and on initial starting 1 or 2 pulls and it cranks. I recently had the motor tuned and the mechanic said it appeared to have very little hours on it. I have health issues now and simply can't keep pulling the crank. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So what is your starting procedure and how long are you stopped before the problem occurs.

I crank it with one or two pulls let it idle a few minutes rev it a couple of times then put it gear and go. Stopping time varies from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. length of time doesn't seem to affect it

are you someplace cold? i went out sunday, had to use the choke to start after sitting 20 minutes, thought maybe because it was so cold out and the water temp, was freezing

Could be a flooding issue, how do you shut it down?
