Hello folks
I have been looking for a replacement engine for my trusty old 80s 4hp Evinrude,as it is now looking a bit "dated".
The Johnson 3.3 looks light weight and more modern, I was going to buy a good used one untill I saw the on-
line parts list.
The motor only seems to have one piston ring?
The carb looks like the Sears gamfisher/Tanaka unit.
The question is,are these motors any good?
In fact am I better to keep my pre all plastic model 4 horse?

Old 80's

LOL Many people are running motors from the 50's and 60's

If your engine runs okay.....just restore it. You know it's history.

I would say save your bucks!

There are no new small outboards as good as your "old" (Hahahahaha!! :D ) '80s Rude Lightwin 4. Some of the '70s versions of that same engine are even better than that.

You already have one of the best versions of the best outboard ever made, by anyone. Take good care of her and she will outlast you. :)

ditto to all the above, maybe clean it up, hit it with paint and some cheap decals from your local graphics shop....and you have a new looking motor thats every bit as good, if not better than anything you can buy today.

Ditto to all the above. I well remember the 3 hp of the '50's. Commented just a couple of days ago as to how reliable, quiet, and smooth that old baby was. Keep it.
