I heard this from multiple sources and was thinking about converting my 2004 Mercury 40 to a 50 hp. Does anyone have other information on this?

I don't have the answer but did notice the 2 stroke merc 40, 50 and 60hp all showed the same weight. Very interesting.

I doubt that the only difference is the carbs, but Brunswick isn't talking.

Bump in case anyone else knows. I have my boat topping out around 44 and would like a little more!

You can always compare the parts list for both.

When I cross referenced my '97 40hp to the 50hp, the only difference I found was the carbs. The previous owner had done this conversion before I purchased it and I was surprised that even the WOT timing remains the same. Would have thought I could pick up a little more advance with the extra fuel, but guess not. Since I did not do the switch, of course I cannot comment on whether or not I feel like I picked up 20%.
