Ingnition Wirring

I have a Crysler 75 ,1980 Skier.I have conected a Evinrude ignition switch to it and not sure where 2 wires go ,the purple and black .these are ment to go to the 2 positions M, does it matter which way,if i conect them and run the engine at the switch i get 15v but it is not charging my Battery?

The black wire should be a ground (-) and connect to one of the "M" terminals. The purple wire should go to the "ACC" terminal on the switch. It's hot when the switch is on. <br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty
