Inconsistency in the manual (for grease)??

I am going to re-install the outdrive (Alpha One Gen II).

On Page 3A-4 the manual says to use 2-4-C for three O-rings on the yoke. But on Page 2A-6 we are instructed to use Engine Coupler Spline Grease for the same O-rings (and the spline, and the pilot surface). What is correct??

Also, the Special Lube 101 is recommended for the retainer nut on the drive shaft housing. That thread is not in the water. Can I use something else for it? Like any of those two types of grease mentioned above? I also have the gimbal bearing grease, and the boat trailer wheel bearing grease (blue, by Mystique). One of these must work for that aluminum nut... Please, suggest.

Thanks.

Lots of folks get a chuckle out of the various greases that Mercury/Mercruiser calls out. I use marine grease for everything :)

The 2-4-C is used only on slidin' bushin' type bearin's,....
