impeller key stuck

Can anyone tell me how the heck to get the impeller key out the the keyhole. It is really stuck in there good. I have put penetrating oil on it and took a chisel to it trying to knock it out with no luck. I don't want to hit it too hard on the driveshaft for fear of damaging gears in lower unit. Any ideas?

It's a yamaha 150 (1996)

What about drilling it out and getting a new one.

I helped a friend do this on a '96 Yamaha 200hp..<br /><br />We had to hit the key at the top, then the bottom, then back to the top, then bottom. Kept up with penetrating oil. We used a large screwdriver hit with a hammer.<br /><br />Don't be afraid to add some heat with a torch.<br /><br />Question: Why do you have to change the key anyway?<br /><br />John
