Ignition Switch 1992 Johnson 120 TLAND WIres Wrong Color

I have the repair manual for the stated outboard. Long story short I was talked into changing our the switch and the color of the wires do not match the ones in the manual. The motor is mounted on a 1991 Stratos but the motor is a 1992. Could the wires be for a 1991 and have been modified. I have a lot of black wires on the switch circuit. We are the original owners of the boat and motor.

No, wire colors at the ignition switch have been standardized for a long time.
Just Google "omc key switch wiring diagram" and you will find tons of drawings, including the big red plug pinout.
