Ignition key kills everything?

Here's the background: my battery is new this year, when plugged in - everything works (fishfinder, bilge, aerator). When I turn the key to start the motor, the fishfinder shuts off and the motor barely makes a noise as if it's not getting the signal to start.

It has a pull cord and I've had the motor running so I know mechanically it's ok. Anyone know of anything that could cause a problem like this?

Sounds like your key is wired to ground, instead of the starter solenoid, or that wire has a short. You might tell us what motor, and what color wires on each of the ign key connections (I,B,M,M,C,S) Sometimes the I connection is called an A connection.
