55EL78S 55 Johnson 1978

My Seloc book nor the Cylmers book tells me what the idle RPM should be in neutral or in gear. (In the water, not with ears on.) Does anybody have this info or is it just by ear? If it was an automobile I would not ask this question.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Smitty

750-800 rpm in gear, or shift back, and forth thru forward, and reverse with out dying. Not all tach's are accurate at this range. To high an idle speed is hard on shift dog, and gears.
