14 volts is the "charge rate". Remove the charger and the battery will settle back to 12.6 volts. That's why they call them 12 volt batteries.

Lead acid cell is 2.1 Volt times 6 cells equals 12.6 volts.
Like most chemical reactions it will very some with Temperature.
Usually a little less in the cold.
Also many types of chargers out there. Some are 3-stage charger. Also I seen some that the charged light comes on when the bulk phase is complete even thou it still has two more stages to go. It is telling you it charged the same way your car or boats alternator would charge it but it still has two stages to go. These last two stages take a long time to complete and in reality the float phase really never completes.
Check your chargers manual and see what it says or hook a volt meter to the battery and see what happends when the charge complete light comes on.
