Re: I/O vs. Outboard Fuel Consumption

One set of performance figures is for a 350 MAG ECT I/O and the other is a Yamaha F300. Which is which?

Dry Boat Weight 4800 pounds

RPM Range Speed (MPH) Fuel (GPH) Fuel (MPG)
2000 9.8 3.6 2.7
3000 19.9 6.8 2.9
4000 30.1 11.9 2.5
5000 40.4 22.2 1.8

Dry Boat Weight 5062 pounds

RPM Range Speed (MPH) Fuel (GPH) Fuel (MPG)
2000 8.8 3.3 2.65
3000 13.9 6.2 2.16
4000 32.2 11.1 2.9
5000 41.2 18.2 2.2

To sum up this entire thread... As my dear friend Cornelius Vanderbilt once said, "if you have to ask how much, you can't afford it".

Awesome numbers Dingbat. I'll assume the second set is the F300. I couldn't find an OB that dipped significantly below 10% of rated power in GPH at WOT. I'll be looking for the F300 now. Source? Boatest.com?

Ok, I screwed up. I was looking for weight and picked a pontoon by mistake. Here is a better example although the F300 is pushing a boat that is #800 heavier. Even with the #800 disadvantage, the F300 is still getting better numbers in the mid-range and even in the upper end.

350 MAG
RPM MPH GPH MPG
2000 9.3 4.7 2.0
3000 25.1 7.3 3.4
4000 36.6 12.9 2.8
5000 46.7 21 2.2
5160 48.3 22.3 2.2

F300
RPM MPH GPH MPG
2000 8.7 3.7 2.35
3000 24.2 6.6 3.69
4000 36.1 11.4 3.18
5500 49.0 22.8 2.15
6000 53.5 26.6 2.01
