gm280, I fully agree, if you are making a living with a meter, then get the best you can afford, I have a couple of Flukes that I have used for years, but like you I have all kinds of meter, including HF and quite a few meters that I got at Radio Shack back in the day when they were actually a stored that carried that kind of stuff. The OP that started this thread does not sound like he is going to be making a living with a meter, so there are alternatives out their that would work for him, especially being he fully admits he knows nothing at this point in time.
