how to test a transom that has no engine hanging on it

hello,

i am going to look at a boat that the owner bought for the engine that is on it. from the pics and his discription the previous owner tool good care of the boat. i know i can look at the engine holes but is there any other ways to make sure the transom is ok. i will be hanging an older 135hp evinrude on it. also how can i tell if my engine shaft lenght will work on this boat. thanks

Drill it and check the shavings for color and moisture, it's the best way even if there is a motor on it.

... or just consider it rotten and needing replacing as is.
