what is the best way to drain the engine oil on an OMC Cobra 4.3L V6?

im 55 and have been a gear-head my whole life, but this is my first boat and i wanna get it right the first time around.... so yeah, im a total newbie.

i picked up an 88 Reinell 173 Escort with a broken motor (GM 4.3 V6) for a song. i immediately pulled and properly rebuilt the engine. im in the process of putting it all back together and have searched extensively on the internet and this forum on how to best drain (siphon) the oil from the engine to no avail... i noticed the threaded end of the dipstick (hose threads?) and have seen a few siphoning techniques but im wondering if any of you old schoolers have a real good way of doing it?

soon as its together i plan to do a shake down run in a nearby lake then bring it back to my shop to change the oil and filter, and i just wanna be prepared before i do.

also, it looks like lots of guys are running straight 30 weight oil in these engines instead of multi viscosity and im wondering what's up with that? my query based on the fact that these engines are equipped with a roller cam and hydraulic roller cam followers so wouldn't it be better to run a multi viscosity oil?

thanks in advance, and i appreciate any solid info you can provide.

Manual suggests 30 as it does not usually run in winter. You only need multi viscosity in winter.
Few guys here run deisel 15w/40 oil in theirs, can't recall the brand. Shell perhaps, I'm sure they will chime in.
I used 2 methods.
1) Clear tube down oil check tube and suck it out with a cheap ebay oil pump while oil is warm.
2) Remove the bottom oil drain and drain into the hull, collecting oil through the drain plug and cleaning the hull after.

You can also get vacume oil extractors, those work nice as well, plenty on Amazon.

Put a drain tube on oil pan before you get motor back in so you can run out the drain plug hole and you will be a happy man.

which type or brand vacuum pump works the best? i have the hose threads on the upper end of the dipstick tube so i definitely want to try this method.

i also like the tube out the bilge drain hole too but id like to see how the vacuum works before i rule it out.

I did not buy one with the threaded adapter. That would work better as you would actually get a large hole. Mine is a cheap one form ebay for $20. It works reasonably ok, jus takers time and engine oil must be warm. If it brakes, I'd be upgrading to a vacuum operated on.

If the engine uses the original OMC dipstick configuration, which already connects to the drain plug, use a good pump threaded to the garden hose fitting at the top of the dipstick.

No need to do the tube out the bilge if you already have the OMC config. Plus, you can't really do that anyway because you would lose your dipstick tube. Usually non OMC/Volvo people suggest that not realizing how they are configured.
