Well how do I start,

The boat that I am currently working on is a 1975 All Season 15 Ft Emperial Tri hull with a 1975ish Thunder Bolt 500 50hp Merc. My dad got the boat in 99, it had been sitting in a barn since 1976. A family of about 5,000 mice had been living in it and stunk horribly! Soooo the SS Stinky was born. Dad ran it for two years and parked it after he nose dived it in a lake in South Dakota. Mom wouldn't get in it if you told her their was a free stack of cash in it.

This summer dad called to inform me that I needed to buy a boat this summer(He is soo thoughtful!) When a friend came to me and told me that his 18 year old son had crashed his boat into a fence post at 40 mph and put a big hole in the hull. Its a 1977 Ebco 16 Ft Tri hull with a 115 hp Merc. I thought that I could put the 115 on Stinky but she's only rated for 95 max. I bought my buddies boat anyway in the hopes of finding a boat with a bad motor.

For now I am working on Stinky. She runs again!!!!! And with the help of my new found friends here me and dad can enjoy her and her future sister for many years.

I only own 1 boat. It's the one in my signature.

The drive was rebuilt last summer, just before the previous owner blew the motor up, and sold it to me.

I built the engine that's now in it, this summer. The hull is a 1981...

Surprizing results. I figured there would have been alot more in the 1-10 yr old catagory. Nice to see there is alot of us out there that own and use older boats.

A 1957 Herter's 16 footer with a 1957 original 35 horse Johnny.A1963 Duratech Orion 17 footer with a 1987 50 horse Rudy (a total rebuild by yours truly) and a perfect 1963 9.5 Rudy.
And an old old 35 foot lobster boat that is currently a rust heap but which will enjoy a rebirth this coming winter.

We have a steel-hull 38' river cruiser started in 1951 and launched in 1955 -built by my wife's grandfather...and a 2008 Sea Ray 195 Sport.

Yeah, I figured there'd be a lot of old boats but it skews even older than I thought. Especially the number of boats that are older than 40 years.

I bought my (37 year old) boat from a father-son business that buys boats and salvages them for motors and hardware. Usually the boat itself is too rotted for them to salvage, mine was an exception. They have a graveyard of old boats of every brand, style, and age-- it's a sight to see. 50 or more boats last time I was there. Many of them aren't that old, their owners just let them sit and rot. Some really nice boats in their time. They'll eventually be cut up and hauled to the junkyard. Sad.

So it IS great to see the number of older boats that guys here have restored or taken care of over the years.

I have the old '86 bayliner with the force motor that I use most of the time, but I have an old puddle jumper that my father in law used to use for duck hunting and when I got it, the last license on it (doesn't have to be licensed for duck hunting) was 1968.

I have a 1964 Glasspar Sportsman with no power yet. It had a blown 64 merc 65hp when I got it. This boat spent 38 years in a garage. It's in amazing condition for it's age.

I got a 1998 16'Hewes Bonefisher 90 Yammie.also 1984 Anacapri with a 1997 225 johnson.The Anacapri is 22 ft.Had a Seadrive,v-6.while replacing the seadrive,I found the transome totally eaten with termites that were still living inside.This hull is so well built,there was NO indication of weakness.The fiberglass was almost 1/2 in thick.I epoxied 2 3/4 plywood inner panels,covered with glass.This is a sound hull.
I often wonder where ALL the old fiberglass boats are.living in S.Florida,I see thousands of new boats enter dealers .s this poll shows ,many of us have boats over 20 yrs old.It woulsd seem at the rate these boats are produced,every person in this country should own more than 1.Yey i know many people that are BOATLESS.

Mine is a 1968 Starcraft Holiday V 150 horse I\O Merc. and is my first and only. I waited till I was almost 50 to get in to boating, wish I would have started sooner.
