How many splines on my input shaft?

69 Mercruiser 160 sn.2497444. I've found a lower unit that is cheap enough to buy for a spare but it's from a 73 140. The owner says it has 13 splines on the input shaft and mentions that mine might have only 8. Will this unit work with my drive?

I recommend you pull your drive and count the splines.
