I bought an '86 150. I need to put it on the boat and have a motor lift. My old '78 140 had a bracket to hook to on top the motor. What do I use for the '86?

Re: How do I

You need a lifting ring that bolts to those three threaded holes you see surounding the flywheel nut.

A rented automotive harmonic balancer is a 3-legged puller and will work to lift the engine. You can mount it atop the flywheel and bolt the puller into the 3 tapped holes in it. (tapped holes are fine thread) Make sure the puller is tensioned evenly, then sling it with a chain or strap.

Re: How do I

I just wrapped a strap around the bottom of the cowling/transom mount/exhaust housing.
Worked fine for me.

The support braces for the lower cowling were not designed to handle the weight of the engine. While it may work, the distribution the suspended weight is better, using a crank mounted/centered device.

Do it the correct way so you don't drop it and cause damage to yourself or the motor.
