I have a 1998 70HP Johnson outboard and wanted to hook up a tach to it. I was thinking of replacing the speedo in the dash as the GPS will work better for the speed. How do you connect the tach to the outboard ? Can I also install a temp gauge ?
I appreciate the help, Thanks

Your control unit may have a three conductor plug-in pigtail. If so, get a mating harness from a BRP dealer.

Tachs typically have three connections:
purple: switched 12vdc
grey: sensor or pulse feed
black: ground

Temp gauge is easy ... Teleflex Marine website.
i.e. Water Temperature Kit (Outboard) (For all electric-start outboards)
2? COLD-HOT J (Included) 62748P

That motor may also have a conector for the System Check Tach. Faria makes them as do some others. Look for a 8 pin connector in the wiring harness. If you find it , I recommend the System Check Tach.
