Guys- I had this problem last year too but when I start the (5.7l) engine, I have to wait until it warms up to put it into reverse for 5 min or so or it dies. Not that big of deal on a slow day at the ramp but when it's busy....well.
I had the carb and choke adjusted by a good mechanic last year as the previous owner had obviosly played around with the carb. The idle adjustment mix screws were all screwed up and the choke was adjusted so bad that it wasn't even engaging. All of this was fixed and it ran really good last year. I just think that unless conditions are perfect (like brand new gas and high temps) it just doesnt have quite enough RPM's at cold idle to overcome the load at startup when engaing the gears. What can I do? The boat otherwise runs great when warm. carb is a Holly 4150 600cfm.
