I need help to identify the year of the outboard and what oil mixture to use.

It is a Johnson Sea-Horse Model J8RCIC Serial E5391770.

What is the year and what oil-gas mixture I should use? What concerns should I have with the new 10% Ethanol gas we are now getting. Nothing else is available.

Re: Help with year and oil-gax mixture

That's a 1981 outboard, Don.

Correct fuel mix is 48:1; 1 pint TC-W3 oil to 6 gallons 87 octane.

Don't get spooked by E-10. Concerns and problems are very exaggerated. Just don't leave fuel in the system during storage

CI are the year letters for 1981.
Ropestart, 8 hp, standard shaft (15" transom height)

The correct mix is 50:1 (2%) using a TCW3 oil

Effect of E10 on fuel hose is the possible concern
