My motor is 1980 70HP. I find oil in the propeller, the oil looks milky when I drain the lower unit, and I see a lot of oil blown into the water when running the motor. So I'm thinking I should replace the oil seals and O ring in the bearing housing on the propeller shaft.
The manual I have says take off the propeller, take out the bolts holding the bearing housing, and remove the bearing housing with a flywheel puller.
Questions:
Should the bearing housing come out pretty easily with the flywheel puller? Or will it be stuck tight and hard to remove?
Once the bearing housing is out, do I simply pry the oil seals out like I would pry out an oil seal on a car hub?
The schematic shows two oil seals right together on the outer end of the bearing housing. Is that correct?
Shall I drive the new oil seals in with a socket? Is it difficult to get them in correctly?
This procedure sounds pretty simple. What problems might I run into?
Thanks
Richard
