Hello everyone.
1996 Mercruiser 5.7 Alpha 1 Gen 2. Recently boogered up my starter (severed the wire from the solenoid to starter accidentally). SO, I order and install new starter and bolts. One bolt breaks........then as I tried to get it to run again (which it did by "holding" the starter in the flywheel opening) other bolt break, so I take it to shop.
Now, this engine was running just days before. No water in oil, no evidence of water intrusion in the engine, not running hot, water is pumping throughout GREAT. The shop just calls and says it's locked up. I find this VERY difficult to believe. OK - the boat sat COVERED for 2 weeks in the driveway.
This thing ran fantastic until the bolts broke. WHAT HAVE I DONE????
